Come find the green at niche retail.
Common recycling, automated faucets, and motion lighting are just the starting point. While we're far from perfect, our efforts continue as they present themselves. Here's a few:
- Automated fluorescent lights – All warehouse lights are now low energy fluorescent bulbs that use individual motion detection sensors. The lights turn on only when you walk into a given area and turn off when you walk away.
- Composting – Our lunch room has a compost bin! When visiting one of our partners, Suunto in Finland, we noticed their compost bin. We were taken back because composting took green far beyond convenience and trends. Inspired, we came home and made composting happen at Niche Retail.
- The grease truck – The company Ford F-250 runs on pure 100% vegetable oil that we get from the Chinese restaurant down the street. We use the truck to run errands, plow the snow on our 4 acre site, haul goods, and do just about anything that requires a truck. We haven't paid for a drop of fuel in years!
- Reuse – We bought this groovy shredder that turns boxes into packaging material. We also give each employee a monogrammed towel on their first day which they use to dry their hands instead of using paper towels.
